After spending time outside of Albuquerque and exploring the country, I have realized that my hometown has had a profound impact on certain cultures I participate in. Specifically around Native and Queer skating groups, where solidarity around a common hobby has helped shape me as a person. The relationship between photography and skate culture is one that is celebrated by many, including myself.

 

The relationship between Native people and photography is incredibly complicated and has roots in historical racism, and otherizing my people. By focusing on native skaters and photography, I hope to take  back my own Native identity and give others a chance to do the same.
